PA: Crossbows legalized — for the moment
January 28, 2009
Hunters can use a crossbow to shoot deer during the archery season anywhere in Pennsylvania beginning this fall.
How long they’ll have that right is a question. Full story at the National Rifle Association of America, Institute for Legislative Action Website

After a little internet searching, reading, and checking up on this stuff I found it’s a pretty well established product in Canada and hails from Quebec where they have this funny habit of speaking a lot of French. Thus the name, Jig-A-Loo, and the company’s claim it derives from a saying they have up north, “I’ve got it!”
That rediculous antideer game commission legalized crossbows even though those appearing at the meetings and the correspondence was over 4 to 1 against crossbow legalization. Pgc just wants more money from tag sales and more deer dead. They dont care what hunters want as this is but one time of many they have gone 100% against the desire of the hunters of Pa. The game commission is currently being run by treehugging environmentalists who see deer as vermin to be reduced to rock bottom levels statewide.
They are killing the sport of hunting in Pa.
There will be another vote on crossbow hunting in Pennsylvania before June 30th 2012. If you want somthing done before that you will have to elect some hunters that listen to the public.
I don’t believe DavidL numbers on hunters who are against using crossbows. I am in favor of the rule and have actively hunted with one for about 3 years.I have talked with many hunters and many favor crossbows. I also hunt with a compound bow. It is about time that crossbows were legal hunting weapons. Now you have the choice. to me the real problems lies with the splinter groups of so called dedicated longbow hunters (traditional) and compound bow hunters trying to monopolize Pa archery hunting scene. These groups continually present law suits against the PA Game commission trying to influence the Game commission to pass archery laws that favor them. These lawsuits are costly and time consuming to the Game commsion and uses up the hunters dollars that could be better spent buying up more hunting land.
There is some-thing I don’t understand, why is it that everyone has an opinion on crossbows? and each person wants to tell there’s. You would think that some of these people would have some-thing to say about the early muzzle-loader season for DOE ONLY. I guess its o.k. to go out and shoot doe during archery season with a single shot rifle (in-line). But mention crossbow and every-body has some-thing to say. It’s pretty confusing to me. A crossbow is just another weapon to me they all do the same thing. When you kill a deer with a rifle, slug gun,in-line,black powder, long bow, compound bow, or a crossbow or any other way I might have over looked is the end result any different? Yes, I do hunt and I also have at least 1 of every weapon I mentioned except a long bow. I am 32 years old and I have a 6 year old daughter and a 4 year old son that was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 21 months old. I guess what I’m trying to say is there is alot more to worry about in life other than what is legal and what isn’t. I’m going to use my crossbow this season from a ground blind and my kids are going to take turns coming along with me they are already talking about it. I just hope they have fun and we see some deer. If any-one has reasons on why in-lines are o.k. but crossbows are not please fill me in. I no you can only shoot doe in the early in-line season but where do BUCK come from, I think we need doe to.
